In this article, we will explore the key role of cable chains in big-sized rotations and how we design and manufacture high-level products to ensure the correct movement of utilities within the cable chain and the all-around reliability of the chain system.
THE RIGHT CHAIN FOR ROTARY MOVEMENTS
Most Brevetti Stendalto cable chains can feature a counter bend radius which allows them to rotate in opposite directions. A counter radius is normally required for a chain to perform a rotary movement and allow the rotation of industrial equipment of any size. This is a crucial feature to expand application possibilities in many areas.
There are some significant details that make a difference in the products we develop for rotary applications:
- chains can be driven from the inner diameter of the system, the outer diameter, or both
- skids and/or wheels may be used to reduce friction
- the rotary chain system can be designed to move by a tow arm or by containment frames
- containment frames guarantee correct rotation kinematics and can be manufactured in zinc-plated or stainless steel according to application requirements; they may also be provided with removable covers for greater protection from debris – covers may even be walkable if required
- an internal movable frame can be provided for better guidance of rotary chains, especially in very big-sized applications
- the correct tensioning and routing of utilities are guaranteed by project-specific conveyors and frames
Other specifications worth a mention are:
- Rotary applications may include one or more chains, depending on the required rotation angle, the available room for the chain system, and the utilities to carry.
- A single-story system can cover a rotation angle up to about 650°; a multi-story system can be designed to reach any angle.
